When the original IrCQ-Net-the chat network run by the owners of the ICQ instant messenger program-officially closed its doors on December 1, 2015, a small group of passionate chat enthusiasts saw an opportunity. They launched ICQ-Chat in November 2015, just before the old network shut down.

Why the familiar name? The founders wanted to create a welcoming home for former IrCQ-Net users who would be searching for a new place to chat. The name "ICQ Chat" felt natural-it honored the legacy while signaling a fresh start.

Today, ICQ Chat Network has grown far beyond its origins. While ICQ still provides its messenger program, it no longer connects to a live-chat network. ICQ Chat Network fills that gap, offering an IRC-based platform where people can live-chat in real-time with chatters from around the world. Our goal has always been simple: to provide a pleasant atmosphere where people can enjoy socializing in an online chat environment.
